Assignment 2(B)
"Investigation of Urban Space"
Task
group
In this assignment, I was required to work in a group of 5 to complete two tasks. The first is to conduct a research and to compare the topography/setting,
population, society/community, type of buildings/space, infrastructures and lifestyle/culture of a selected urban, suburban and rural area. The second task is to conduct an investigation of an urban space, specifically The Bentway, Toronto. Through virtual tour and observation, we are to analyse and evaluate the detailed elements from the components of the built environment using Kevin Lynch's "Image of A City". The uniqueness or sense of place of the space that creates the identity of the space should be highlighted as well, along with a marking of the area of study (key plan & location plan). All information obtained in both tasks have to be illustrate on two A2 sized posters.

Reflection
1. Discipline Specific Knowledge
During the research stage of Part B, I was able to put into practice the theory proposed by Kevin Lynch on the image of cities. This means understanding what Kevin Lynch is trying to convey in his study and the process in applying it into my own investigation of an urban space.
2. Interpersonal Skills
In this group assignment, I took upon myself to make sure that my team is progressing on the right track by frequently asking the tutor questions as a reassurance. I also learned about the importance in utilising the abilities of each member such as in the use of Photoshop and Canva.
3. Digital Literacy
To complete this assignment, it is undeniable that we have used ICT as efficiently as possible to obtain information, especially on places beyond national borders. This includes the use of Google Maps, Wikipedia and official websites run by the administrators of the place themselves.
