Introduction To Drawing
"An architect's most useful tools are an eraser at the drafting board, and a wrecking bar at the site"

- Frank Lloyd Wright
The introduction To Drawing module aims to familiarize students with the fundementals and basic representation of natural and built environment through the exploration of different drawing techniques which will be utilised as a communication skill in the construction industry. Upon completing this module, students should be able to express three-dimensional drawings as two-dimensional orthographic drawings, obtain the basic principles of drawing techniques in the construction industry and recognise the different types of drawings used in the construction industry.
Projects & Assignments
Overview:
To draw a reasonably challenging item not exceeding the size of 15 cubic centimetres and only symmetrical in one direction. Drawings are to be drawn in 1:1 scale on A4 sized papers and includes 1 plan view, 3 elevations and 1 section
Overview:
To group up, measure a given space (TLC Block C Level 7) and translate the measurements into scaled drawings on A3 sized papers individually. Drawings are to be drawn with the correct use of line weights and symbols, as well as professional drawing techniques used in the construction industry. Drawings are to include 1 plan view, 2 elevations (horizontal & vertical), 1 section and 1 detail drawing

Drawings are to include 1 site plan, 1 floor plan, 2 external elevations (vertical & horizontal) and 2 sections (vertical & horizontal)
Reflection
Personally, I've learned quite a number of things upon completing this module. Some of the skills i have obtained include the ability to differentiate between the importance of certain details in drawing and other characteristics which may not be as important, the ability to apply visually appropriate scaling in drawing and to work with others well by functioning as a team to complete certain tasks which require each member to utilise their own capabilities. Furthermore, I believe that I have also learned the very fundementals of orthographic drawing as well as the skills used on the drafting table with special tools. Some of the knowledge i have obtained in drawing is the use of different line weights for different components of the drawing, the different types of drawings, the use of various symbols and the way of interpreting and creating drawings log.
